Terry Ligom, a trained agronomist with a Master’s degree and a background in crop post-harvest management, has seen his life and career transformed through the support of the Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions (FSSS).
Managing the Foundation’s farmers’ hub in Agbile Village, Benue State, Nigeria, Ligom describes his work as a calling to uplift local farmers, providing them with high-quality resources, training, and storage facilities that improve their agricultural practices and income.
In his own words, Ligom reflects on how FSSS’s support has enabled him to fulfil a lifelong ambition in agriculture, transforming not only his life but also the lives of countless farmers in his community.
Through this hub, Ligom has not only realised his career dreams but has also secured financial stability and a meaningful role in his field. For Ligom, managing this hub is the fulfilment of a deeply held aspiration.
“It has always been my dream to own a storage facility. Aggregating and storing agricultural commodities was how I paid my university fees,” he explains.
Before connecting with FSSS, achieving this goal was out of reach. “The hub is worth more than 24,000,000 Naira. Even with decades of savings, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it on my own,” he admits.
Thanks to FSSS, Ligom now has access to resources and infrastructure that elevate his work as an agripreneur to a professional level.
Ligom’s role as a hub manager has provided him with a stable income and a solid Foundation for furthering his career in agriculture. By overseeing the hub’s operations, Ligom has developed valuable expertise in commodity aggregation, storage, and the distribution of quality agricultural products.
“The Foundation gave me the opportunity to build a secure livelihood in a field I am passionate about,” he says. “This isn’t just a job – it’s a life-changing opportunity. It’s given me security that few agripreneurs have, and I’m grateful every day for it.”
Through the hub, Ligom has also expanded his knowledge and leadership skills. As a trained agronomist, he appreciates that the role allows him to utilise his education in a practical, impactful way.
“FSSS gave me a platform to apply my expertise in post-harvest management and agronomy. This has not only advanced my career but also brought my education to life in a hands-on way,” he explains.
As the manager of the FSSS hub, Ligom has become a respected figure in the agricultural sector and his community. His position has allowed him to refine his skills in managing resources, offering guidance, and providing solutions to agricultural challenges.
“This role has given me the chance to lead, innovate, and be recognised as an expert. It’s been an incredible boost for my professional identity and confidence.”
